50th Anniversary Party report
Right on cue, the drizzle stopped for our Hallington 50th Anniversary Party. More than 100 Westwater members and their guests tucked in to a cracking, or should that be crackling, hog roast, and enjoyed drinks from a mobile bar in a horsebox!
With live music, a casting competition, quoits, and demonstrations of the latest Hardy/Greys fishing tackle there was plenty to keep people occupied on one of those extremely rare Hallington days when the wind died completely, and the lakes were like mirrors.
Congratulations to Margaret Ramshaw, who won the raffle prize of a day’s fishing at Mulberry Whin, on the Driffield Beck chalkstream in Yorkshire. Every Westwater member was entered in the draw, and it was great that Margaret was actually at the Party to hear that she’d won. She seemed rather pleased!
Ken Muter’s casting competition proved very popular. 32 hopefuls took part, with Ian Henderson claiming first prize, followed by B.Stewart and Phil Bilbrough. Those taking part will tell you – it’s not as easy as it looks.
That’s 50 years taken care of – what’s the next excuse for a Party?
Special thanks to Tom Stephenson at WMH Meats in Haydon Bridge, Darren Williams at The Pele Tower, Corbridge, Andrew Sowerby, Hardy/Greys, Malcolm Barrass, and Stannington WI.
