We are pleased to be able to offer a range of coaching opportunities at Hallington this season, with sessions to suit all abilities. Some of these will start in April, so early applications are recommended.
NEW MEMBERS
Free coaching sessions to new members to help ensure your first season at Hallington gets off to the best possible start.
Content:
Each two hour session will be led by our lead coach Barry Mitchell- Game Angling Instructors Association (GAIA) and Fly Fishers International (FFI)
Each angler will receive supervision and guiding from Barry as follows –
To improve casting,
To improve fishing techniques
Choice of fly pattern
Etiquette at Hallington.
Individual requests.
Fishing with barbless hooks for approx one hour (fish caught will be recorded as part of each angler’s season limits).
The coaching is open to a maximum of four anglers per session, on a ‘first come/served’ basis. Please choose from only one of the three sessions below.
Monday April 13th (10am – 12.00pm)
Tuesday April 28th (10am – 12.00pm)
Tuesday May 5th (10am – 12.00pm)
Application deadlines for the above are 4pm on April 10th, April 27th and May 1st respectively.

EXISTING MEMBERS
We would like to offer you a free coaching session with Barry Mitchell during April and May.
With it being early in the season it may be a good time to benefit from Barry’s expertise with advice being offered on casting technique, choice of flies, general advice about both lakes and fishing from boats.
Available sessions are as follows with a maximum of four anglers per session
Wednesday April 29th 10am – 12pm
Wednesday May 27th 10am – 12pm
The deadline for applying for one of the above sessions is 4pm on Monday April 27th and Monday May 25th.

NON-MEMBERS
This offer is available to anyone who has NOT previously been a member of WFFC (full or trial member).
Do you have a fishing acquaintance who might benefit from professional coaching, and an introduction to what’s on offer at Hallington?
Each session is open to three different anglers on a ‘first come/served’ basis.
Dates:
Tuesday April 14th (10am – 12.30pm)
Wednesday April 15th (2pm – 4.30pm)
Tuesday May 12th (10am – 12.30pm)
Application deadlines are 4pm on April 12th, and May 10th respectively.
Session content –
Each 2.5 hour session will be led by Barry Mitchell and will cover basic overhead and roll casts, etiquette at Hallington then fishing with barbless hooks for approx 1.5 hours
Each angler to receive, during this time, supervision and guiding from Barry.
Cost: £15 pp to include the fishing session of either catch and release (three fish limit) and/or catch and keep (one fish limit). Cheques made payable to Westwater Angling Ltd or by cash on the day or via Bacs.
Tea/coffee and biscuits will be provided.
Licence – If you are not in possession of a current rod fishing licence we can provide one for the day (free of charge) – please indicate at the time of booking,
Tackle – if you do not possess any tackle we will provide all that you need except for waders. The sessions are all from the bank and waders are advised although a good pair of wellingtons would suffice.

MEMBERS AND GUESTS
The Club is offering an opportunity for Members to bring a new guest to Hallington for free coaching and an introduction to the insect life of our two lakes.
Members are able to invite one guest who has not previously fished at Hallington as a full or trial member. There is a limit of 12 for the casting technique session and 10 for the entomology and both on a ‘first come/served’ basis.
The date:
Sunday June 28th
Casting and essential tips 10am – 1pm and
Entomology 1.30pm – 2.30pm
Content:
1. An outdoor casting technique session (to cover both bank and boat techniques) led by lead coach Barry Mitchell.
2. A very informative session, in the clubhouse classroom, on ’The insects of Hallington and how to imitate them’ led by Phil Bilbrough a WFFC member and Chairman of the Northumbria Branch of the Fly Dresser’s Guild.
The main orders of insects important to anglers at Hallington and descriptions of their life-cycles.
When the insects might appear during the season.
What fly patterns to use and how to fish them.
When making your booking (details below) please state if you would like to experience both the Casting and Entomology sessions or, if not, please state the one session you will attend.
There is no cost for this offer and tea/coffee and biscuits will be provided.
