OPENING DAY 2026
The weather gods weren’t quite so generous this year. Shaking off the memory of 2025’s sunshine, a “dreich” morning greeted the 37 cold but determined members who turned out for Westwater’s Opening Day.
High winds and rising water levels kept the boats docked and restricted bank fishing, but the spirit of the club remained unshakable.
The Scoreboard
Despite the brutal conditions, 27 hearty souls braved the shoreline:
Total Catch: 23 Rainbows.
Top Rod: A massive congratulations to Stewart Younger, who landed 8 fish—an incredible feat given the weather.
Off the Water
The real action moved to the kitchen, where Directors Steve Hair and Alex Muir ran a high-speed bacon butty production line. They were a massive hit—though word is one particular member managed to put away five single-handedly!
A Season Blessed
To wrap up the festivities, Club Chairman Jim Chambers officially blessed the lakes for the season ahead. The day concluded in the best way possible: with the traditional communal nip to warm the bones.
Tight lines for the rest of the season!
