THE FLY DRESSERS’ GUILD
founded 1967
The Fly Dressers’ Guild promotes and encourages the art of fly dressing or fly tying of artificial flies for fly fishing.
The Guild is a not-for-profit organisation open to anyone interested in flies and fly tying, whether a knowledgeable veteran, a novice, or somewhere in between.
Our members’ interests cover the full range of flies and fishing styles, including:
- traditional dries, wets, and nymphs for trout
- hair-winged and fully dressed classic salmon flies
- modern stillwater competition flies
- realistics and semi-realistics
- pike
- saltwater flies
Established by four enthusiastic fly dressers in 1967, the Guild has grown to around 1,500 members in 40 branches throughout the UK. These branches offer a range of activities including fly-tying classes, talks, demonstrations, and fishing outings.

At some meetings, there is a free buffet. We also hold friendly fishing competitions and outings at local waters every year. If you are a novice tyer with little or no experience, we can get you tying flies that will catch fish. Branch Membership costs just £15 per annum (£10 concessionary)
We have several members who can put you on the right track and offer one-to-one tuition free of charge for members.
